Heard of a zero day? I think it is something that through hikers came up with. It refers to putting zero miles towards your destination. Take a day off, put your feet up.
This is something we are not very good at, but we have aspirations. Turns out, when you live on the road, you have to specifically make time for these days (weeks or months too). Well, today was one of those, well mostly.
Sleeping late, breakfast and then lunch all in camp. Reading mostly, i actually worked on a book for while. A project I give about a 30% chance of finishing, lol.
At the crack of 230pm we left camp and paddled a was up the Gamble River (north of our pin). There was a small but noticeable current coming at us and we saw what we think is a was like a king fisher. It had black cap, white collar, and a tan brown chest. I only had it in binocs for a sec but besides the top not it also looked like it had cheek top knots if that makes any sense. Dont think I know this bird.
The river went shallow in some places and deep dark in others. In some areas where it was 3-5 ft of deep there was a forest green aquatic plant that looked like bunches of hair, whole fields of it waving gently under water in the current. Unique, special.
The deep spots had fat bass. Got a great video of Sheila fighting the big one, and it did not get away. Caught some northern in there too. Tried doing a little jigging off the bottom as well, some success with bass, didn’t find any hiding walleye.
There is a dragonfly species that visits the lake near lilies pads. Iridescent light blue.
The wind was almost non existent today. Sprinkled a but not enough to have a rain jacket make an appearance. It did make.for some pretty spectacular mirror images coming off the lake.
The big rock in the pic today.is supposed to have some pictograpjs, but you have to use your imagination. There are spots… What is there for sure is an eagles nest. Falconers dream nest. We didnt see it until the adult flew off it as we approached. Didnt fly far and eye balled us. You can still see a little smoke in the image. It has been off and on for sure. Right now in camp, on. Smells like Vegas in the 90s.
Didnt see a human all day. Heard a couple people.fishing out of a canoe but never saw them.
Thinking we might stay.here another night, see what is over the portage we are camped near. Garbage Bay, what a name.
