Location Post – June 14, 2026

So change of plans today. The wind howled last night and it was still smoking during breakfast (oatmel and coffee/tea), so we opted for our first zero day. We usually want to get a little further from the entrance, but the nice spot, iffy weather and still sore paddlers made staying put sound good.
Not terribly unexpectedly, turned out to be a great day.
First fishing/exploring trip turned up only one small northern. But we ran into a mated loon pair in one of the bays, and while we didnt see a nest, one of the pair came right up to the boat and made some noise! We guess there were eggs or nest nearby as we have only ever seen that kind of behavior once before and that was the “tick story” time. The time we accidentally paddled up to a loon nest when we were trying to get ashore for tick removal.
Second fishing trip was after lunch at camp and was more sucessful. Sheila got the big one, pictured. We covered a lot of this lake, and the short parts on the open water said “good call” on staying put today. We saw a deer feeding too. We dont see a lot of those usually, but tbis one also had a collar. Interesting. Didnt know the park sevice collared deer.
Saw our first osprey today, no eagles yet.
Only one casualty to report. My new Helinox Chair Zero LT broke. Leaned over just a little bit to grab the coffee bag and one of the legs caved. For those of you that camp, you know that loss of a place to seat is no small tradegy. I shall mourn its loss.
