Sheila spends her birthday in the BWCA!
We covered some.distance today, but not due to an early start. Our loon neighbors were up all night. Sounded like they were right outside the tent. They have an amazing number of different calls. Early AM rain lead.to extended coffee time in the NEMO and a 10:15 shove off. Which doesnt seem that late until you realize it has been light for 5 hours, 🙂
Saw a shoeshoe hare as we were leavng the campsite.
Passed through Thomas Lake then had lunch at Ima lake with the NEMO up letting a thundershower pass.
Then we did the 7th portage of the day, 220 rods or about 2/3 of a mile. Took over an hour double portaging it. Didnt like the first campsite in Alice Lake so here we are, another few miles in. Didnt get camp set up until 8pm.
Passed a beaver swimming with his branch. And I think we saw the same collared deer today as we left Jordan lake but she had a fawn with her.
The strawberries are just flowering, so we will catch some of that action this summer.
Sheila continues here one woman campaign to clean the backcountry. Sunglasses in the bog and walleye lures in a plastic bag were todays top finds.
